Dear readers, it is nice to have you back on our blog again to read about our exceptional Nurses and the work they do around the world and in healthcare. Let us appreaciate the work of this month's Nurse of impact through His story.
Tell Us About Your Work
My commitment to mentoring Nurses and nursing students in research and scholarly endeavours culminated in establishing the Institute of Nursing Research Nigeria in 2016, when like-minded Nurses at the Fellowship of Christian Nurses Southwest Zone worked to birth the organisation.
Over the past six years, we have been committed to building the competencies of nurses in scholarly endeavours. Our members have been able to conduct rigorous research while publishing their findings in peer-reviewed journals. Many of our members have secured funding for postgraduate programmes in nursing in high-ranking institutions worldwide.
Recently, as part of my PhD program, I developed an mHealth psychoeducational intervention and a mobile application -the ChEmo Nurse Breast cancer Application (CENBA). I am currently conducting a randomised controlled trial to test the effect of the intervention on psychological issues of Nigerian women diagnosed with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy.

In November 2021, we hosted an international conference at INR Nigeria, where we hosted global nurse leaders like Professor Patricia Davidson, the vice-chancellor of the University of Wollongong, Australia and Howard Catton, the CEO of the International Council of Nurses.
As part of our commitment to impacting communities, we collaborated with Optimal Health African Initiative in May 2022 to launch ‘Pad a Girl Campaign’, where we reached out to over 1,800 girls through menstrual hygiene education and distribution of menstrual pads.
Recently, our Director of Research and Statistics, Dr Yetunde Tola, bagged a PhD Nursing degree from the Nethersole School of Nursing, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the 16th nursing institution in the world (QS World University Rankings by subject, 2022).
At INR, we are welcoming the 5th Cohort of our Journal Club. This club which started operation in 2020, has successfully trained four cohorts of nurses and nursing students in research and publications with sound research output among the members.
