Nyuma Harrison: On a mission to respond to the needs of underserved children in Africa
On this month's episode of Nurses of impact, let us take a look at the work this Nurse of Impact and founder of The Nyuma Harisson Foundation.
Tell Us About Your Work
THE NYUMA HARRISON FOUNDATION (NHF) is a non-profit organization on a mission to ensure that every child in Africa has the opportunity to grow up equally “privileged” with the resources, support systems and opportunities needed to thrive as independent, confident and actively contributing members of society.
Our objectives are to make healthcare, education, nutrition, social and skills development accessible to disadvantaged children in Africa - Starting in Zambia. We are on a mission to break cycles of poverty. We are on a mission to raise "whole" humans.
The Nyuma Harrison Foundation is fully registered as an NGO/NPO in both Zambia and the United States.
Tell Us About Your Recent Projects
THE NYUMA HARRISON FOUNDATION is on a path of rapid but steady growth. We are growing in ways that remain aligned with our day one vision and mission - To respond to the needs of underserved children in Africa, and to do it in a way that prioritizes "deep impact" (impact focused on quality and sustainability) over wide impact" (impact focused on wide reach/high numbers).
Our team of young leaders has tripled in size over the last two years and they remain in the drivers' seat - they are the ones on the ground in Zambia. They are the ones who identify hidden need, and they remain the ones charged with the responsibility of finding solutions and delivering solutions. Most recently, NHF added it's first three paid staff members - A Medical Doctor, a country Director and a resident "Mum."
On SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 2022, The Nyuma Harrison Foundation will host its first annual Summer Gala - a fundraising event to support the foundation’s work with young leaders and orphans in Zambia.
On this night, NHF will also honor individuals who have made great contributions towards elevating the profile of Africa by changing narratives, developing systems, and promoting smarter and more sustainable U.S - Africa partnerships.

How Do You Stay Motivated?
I wake every single morning on a mission to answer a series of questions:
1)What are the responsibilities come with privileges of access, of exposure, knowledge, skill, experience, connectedness, safety and a courageous mind?
2) What's your why - What is the real purpose of your work and every goal attached to it?
3) Why did God chose you - What is your calling?
4) What will be your legacy - Who will remember you and how will they remember you?
